What’s A Cheap Tire?

If you are looking for a cheap tire to put on your vehicle then make sure that you get the correct size and ply tire. Each vehicle has a specific specification for your car or truck. By putting the wrong size tire on your vehicle yo are just inviting potential disaster. Not every cheap tire is a “cheap tire”. You can find good high quality tires at an inexpensive price if you know where to look.

Today’s cars are a lot different than the cars our fathers drove. You know the old family four-door sedan with mismatched tires and rust on the quarter panel. It seemed that no matter what you put on for tires it still ran the same. One reason for this is the mechanical and electronic systems had nothing to do with your tires and how your car ran. Today’s cars have certain OEM specifications that allow for very small tolerances when it comes to the type of tire you can use. If you were to put a cheap tire on your car that didn’t meet the specifications for your car you run the chance of changing the data your car receives from the wheel sensors and your car’s braking system’s computer. This can be very dangerous and is not recommended.

The size of the tire is the most important thing when searching for a cheap tire. If you buy the wrong size tire you might as well try and sell them. There is a tolerance of 3% tire size difference where you will ok to put it on your vehicle anything over 3% and you are out of the acceptable range for safety and functioning. The electronic system distributes the braking to each wheel independently to each tire and is based on a specific sensor. A cheap tire that is the wrong size will handle much different then it was meant to handle.

The speed rating of a cheap tire is another thing you must be aware of. Each tire has a specific rating which lets us know at wht speed the tire will function properly up to. If you buy a cheap tire that is only rated up to 80 miles per hour then you better make sure you are driving a Yugo so you don’t go over that speed. An S rated tire is rated up to 112 mph and will probably be fine for most vehicles on the road today. Obviously if you drive a Corvette then you might want to get a higher rated tire. Not only will it be rated for a higher speed it will also perform better in extreme handling conditions.

When buying a cheap tire you have to educate yourself by doing some research and find out exactly what you need for your car. Don’t just buy the first tire that comes along at a cheap price you may find that you have to replace the tire after only a few months.
