Lexus CT200h – Review
Lexus has strategically combated its brand view of catering to a particular lifestyle and has come out with new Lexus CT200h. The idea that Lexus, just like Mercedes-Benz, serves the more mature car buyers has been pushed aside with the arrival of sporty Lexus CT200h, which gives a much needed breath of fresh air. This car is sure to get Lexus more buyers from diverse market segments.
Lexus CT 200h has many similarities in visuals with LF-Ch concept Lexus which was launched at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. The beautiful design of Lexus CT 200h follows the Lexus’s L-finesse design philosophy, but the sharp edged appearance of CT 200h makes it different from its other rivals.
The CT200h has four driving modes, which are normal, EV, eco, and sports. In sports mode, the suspensions become firmer, and the controls more responsive. In EV mode, the car will run on electric only mode. In eco mode, the climate control, and throttle responses are dull, but the car consumes less fuel. The transmission system is automatic, and it will automatically switch between the power modes of the car.
Looking on the performance of car, position of the seat of driver is kept low and Lexus has used highly supportive driving seat for this purpose. There is a twin mode display in speed dials which turns from blue to red in sports mode. When Twin mode system is switched, spotlight also turns in red in SPORT mode, which instantly changes the look of cabin. Though Lexus CT 200h has an efficient and compact design, but it has a very spacious interior. This spacious interior which accommodates rear and front passenger comes with the 2,600mm wheelbase. When rear seats are folded, Lexus CT 200h can hold up to 700litres of luggage capacity and in normal situation, capacity of luggage is 345litres.
The powerful drive of Lexus CT 200h is attained by 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and a heavy electric motor. Multi drive modes, which have four modes, give the driver a great hold on the car. For comfort and efficiency there are NORMAL and ECO modes, whereas for a sporty spirit, Lexus CT 200h has the SPORT mode which provides an ultimate racing experience. The fourth mode is unique, as other hybrid system manufacturers do not use it. This fourth mode is called EV which is Electric Vehicle mode in which car can run at the speed of 28mph and up to 1.2 miles with ultra-quietness. This mode involves zero consumption of fuel.
Lexus CT 200h is equipped with the innovative technology of double wishbone and trailing arm rear suspension system. This system gives the super ride comfort and handling, which is the trademark of Lexus.
Extraordinary elements like coil springs, shock absorbers and front anti-roll bar in the MacPherson strut design gives an improved roll firmness and very comfortable ride to the passengers and driver.
Lexus has excluded the rear wishbone suspension in the CT 200h and put a lightweight trailing arm.
