When I started my freshman year in South Dakota, I was very concerned with college campus safety. My whole family lived in a different state and this would be my first time living away from home.

In one of the orientations, we were taught about keeping some personal security tools with us at all times, especially those with classes late at night. The speaker said that is wasn’t uncommon that students from outside the state would be taken advantage of.

When I got back to my dorm, I called up my dad and relayed the speaker’s message. He said that he was in complete agreement and arranged to get me some pepper spray or maybe a stun gun.

I wanted more information so I suffered the Net know more about personal security tools. My hunt led me to various gadgets specifically tailored for college campus safety. I settled on a personal alarm since it had many uses.

When it was delivered, I made sure to always have it on me especially when I was coming home late because of a party or study session. Within a few days, I began spreading the news of college campus safety with my fellow students.

Some weeks into the second semester, I saw someone about to get mugged. I saw a security guard a ways off but wasn’t sure I could get to him in time to prevent the robbery about to take place.

I thought of setting off my personal alarm instead. The guard heard it and the would-be-criminals fled, not wanting a confrontation.

The victim expressed her gratitude and curiosity about my personal alarm. I told her everything I knew about personal security tools as we strolled towards the girls’ dorms. I was glad I was able to keep college campus safety in that instance.
